Eleventh annual Hokies For The Hungry - One can from every fan!
Annual canned food drive to be held this weekend
November 7, 2007

The Marching Virginians will sponsor a massive canned food drive in conjunction with the Virginia Tech vs. Florida State football game on Saturday, November 10, 2007. The goal of the ambitious eleventh annual HOKIES FOR THE HUNGRY drive is to collect 66,233 cans of food - One Can from Every Fan!

Tom Gabbard, Associate Director of Athletics, is serving as Honorary Chairperson of HOKIES FOR THE HUNGRY. "This is the time of year that many of us get together with friends and family to celebrate the holiday season," said Gabbard. "There are many families and individuals in our region who are less fortunate, and this is a wonderful opportunity to share with them. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I hope fans of both Virginia Tech and Florida State University will contribute to this wonderful cause during the start of the holiday season."

Josh Seager, Executive Officer of the MVs, Tom Gabbard, Associate Director of Athletics, and Jordan Booker, one of two Drum Majors for the MVs.

Drop-off points for HOKIES FOR THE HUNGRY will be established at all four corners of Lane Stadium and at the Marching Virginians' practice field at the corner of Southgate Drive and Spring Road (across from Lane Stadium), and various locations near the stadium where Tailgate Pep Bands will be performing prior to kick- off.

All contributions will be distributed through the Montgomery County Christmas Store.

In addition to Saturday's collection, Moe's Southwest Grill in Downtown Blacksburg has teamed up with the Marching Virginians, by donating $1 AND a can of food for every burrito sold this Friday.
