Four Hokies make first-team All-ACC
Seven honored on first or second team
November 26, 2007

BLACKSBURG - Following a Coastal Division championship, seven Virginia Tech football players were rewarded Monday by being named to the All-ACC team, as selected by ACSMA/AP, the media association for the Atlantic Coast Conference. Xavier Adibi, Chris Ellis, Victor Harris and Eddie Royal all made the first team while Barry Booker, Duane Brown and Brandon Flowers all made the second team.

Adibi makes the first team as a linebacker after making the second team a year ago. He leads the Hokies with 99 tackles, including 11 for loss and three sacks, to go along with an interception, five pass break ups and five quarterback hurries. The senior from Hampton, Va., has started the last 38 games at linebacker and will lead the Hokies into Saturday's ACC Championship game against Boston College.

Ellis, a senior from Hampton, Va., has been a force at the defensive end spot all season. He joins UVa's Chris Long on the first team at the position. Ellis has 48 tackles on the season, including 9.0 for loss and 8.5 sacks. He also has an interception return for a touchdown to go along with three fumble recoveries, one forced fumble, five pass break ups and a team-high 32 quarterback hurries.

Harris makes his first appearance on the all-conference team. The junior cornerback from Highland Springs, Va., is second in the ACC in passes defended, intercepting five passes and breaking up 11. He has 29 tackles and scored a touchdown on an interception return and on a kickoff return this year.

Royal makes the first team for the second straight year as a return specialist. He leads the ACC in punt return averages and is the conference's all-time leader in punt return yards. He took two punts back for touchdowns this year and the senior from Centreville, Va., also returns kickoffs.

Booker came on late in the season, recording 4.5 tackles for loss against Virginia. The senior from Amherst, Va., started all 12 games at defensive tackle, recording 39 tackles, including 9.5 for loss and three sacks, with two forced fumbles and 20 quarterback hurries. Brown makes the second team as an offensive tackle for the second year in a row. The senior from Richmond, Va., started all 12 games, playing 739 offensive snaps and grading out at 89 percent. Flowers, who made the first team a year ago, makes the second team this year as a cornerback. The junior from Delray Beach, Fla., didn't see as much action this year as most teams went away from him. That didn't stop him from picking off five passes and breaking up seven more. He had 72 tackles, third on the team, with seven of them for loss. He also had one fumble recovery and three quarterback hurries.

Linebacker Vince Hall (Chesapeake, Va.), free safety D.J. Parker (Hampton, Va.) and defensive tackle Carlton Powell (Chesapeake, Va.) all made honorable mention All-ACC.
