BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech sophomore football players Sergio Render and Brent Bowden were honored for their outstanding years by being named to the sophomore All-America team, as named by collegefootballnews.com.

Render, a true sophomore from Newnan, Ga., made the first-team as an offensive guard after leading the team in knockdowns with 64. Rivals.com also named him second-team All-ACC.

From the site: "A huge talent that's had his ups and downs over the last couple of seasons, Render was one of the catalysts of a Hokie line that played its best ball over the second half of the season. Physically imposing at the point of attack, he's capable of mauling his man, opening holes for the Virginia Tech runners."

Bowden, a redshirt sophomore from Centreville, Va., had a solid year in his first year as the starting punter. He averaged 42.8 yards on 83 kicks this year, with 27 downed inside the 20-yard line.
