Roanoke to host annual Virginia Tech Pep Rally

Roanoke, VA - The City of Roanoke invites its citizens and Virginia Tech fans to kick off the 2008 football season at this year’s Pep Rally on Friday, Sept. 5, in the Special Events Center of the Roanoke Civic Center. Doors open at 6 p.m. The formal program, sponsored by WDBJ 7, starts at about 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Bill Roth, the Voice of the Hokies, will emcee the event, which will feature a showcase of academic programs and collaboration with the Virginia Tech Roanoke Center; the Hokie Bird mascot; Virginia Tech cheerleaders; the Corps of Cadets Highty-Tighties band; and the 2008 Virginia Tech football team.

SUBWAY spokesperson Jared Fogle will be at the Pep Rally participating in the SUBWAY Virginia Tech Super Fan contest as part of his tour celebrating the 10-year anniversary of his successful SUBWAY weight loss campaign.

Additional events will be held on Sept. 5 in conjunction with the Pep Rally:

  • All Day Roanoke Valley Hokie Club 9th Annual Hokie Pride Day
  • 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. Roanoke Valley Hokie Club Luncheon at Hidden Valley Country Club
  • 3–6 p.m. NewVa Corridor Technology Expo at Roanoke Civic Center Special Events Center
  • 6–7:30 p.m. Pep Rally Prelude – Showcase of Academic Programs, including the SUBWAY Super Fan Contest
  • 7:30 p.m. (approx.) Offi cial Pep Rally Program sponsored by WDBJ 7
