White Helmets worn by football team during 2010 to be put up for auction
Funds donated to Herma's Readers

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech football team announced today that the 70 white helmets worn during the Hokies’ 2010 season and the 2010 ACC Championship game will be auctioned off online at, with all proceeds going to Herma’s Readers. Herma’s Readers is a non-profit organization that promotes the power of reading and literacy to youngsters during their formative years, grades K-3.

The online auction will begin at 5 p.m., today (Monday, Dec. 13), and will continue through Saturday, Dec. 18 at 5 p.m. Anyone wishing to bid on the helmet can do so by logging onto There will be a minimum bid of $300 and all orders will have a $25 shipping fee added to the end of the bid. All helmets WILL NOT be mailed until after the Orange Bowl, Jan. 3, 2011, however, anyone wishing to purchase the helmet as a Christmas gift can request a certificate as a method of presenting the gift until the helmet can be mailed.
