Helmets to be auctioned off
Funds donated to Herma's Readers

BLACKSBURG — The Virginia Tech football team announced today that both the white and the orange helmets worn during the Hokies’ 2011 season will be auctioned off online at, with all proceeds going to Herma’s Readers. Herma’s Readers is a non-profit organization that promotes the power of reading and literacy to youngsters during their formative years, grades K-3.

The online auction will begin Thursday, December 8 at 10 a.m., and will continue through Thursday, Dec. 15 at 5 p.m. Anyone wishing to bid on these helmets can do so by logging onto There will be a minimum bid of $400 on each helmet, and all orders will have a $25 shipping fee added to the end of the bid. All helmets WILL NOT be mailed until after the Sugar Bowl, Jan. 3, 2012, however, anyone wishing to purchase a helmet as a Christmas gift can request a certificate as a method of presenting the gift until the helmet can be mailed.
