Hokies extend radio partnership with Washington's 106.7 The Fan

The Virginia Tech IMG Sports Network and CBS Radio, Inc. have agreed to a multi-year extension of their current radio affiliation agreement with WJFK-FM, 106.7 The Fan in Washington, D.C.

The Fan will continue to carry all Virginia Tech football and men’s basketball game broadcasts, plus ancillary programs, including weekly “Tech Talk Live!” shows featuring Virginia Tech head football coach Frank Beamer and men’s basketball coach Seth Greenberg. The new contract extension runs through the 2014-15 season.

“Virginia Tech has a large and loyal fan base in the Washington, D.C. area,” WJFK Program Director Chris Kinard said. “We're very excited to continue to provide Hokie fans with play-by-play broadcasts of their favorite football and men's basketball team on The Fan.”

In addition to Virginia Tech sports broadcasts, 106.7 The Fan is home of The Sports Junkies, The Mike Wise Show with Holden Kushner, The LaVar Arrington Show with Chad Dukes, and other D.C.-sports programming. The station’s 25,000-watt FM signal blankets Washington and all of Northern Virginia, home of Virginia Tech’s largest alumni base.

“We were thrilled to make the switch to WJFK three years ago to enhance our exposure in the Northern Virginia and D.C. market place,” said Rick Barakat, general manager of the Virginia Tech IMG Sports Network. “That sentiment has proven itself over the initial term of this relationship, and we couldn’t be happier to extend this deal for another three years. WJFK is one of our marquee affiliates across the entire Virginia Tech IMG Sports Network, and we look forward to doing more great things with this partnership in the future. There is no better home for the Hokies in this key market than 106.7 The Fan!”

The Virginia Tech IMG Sports Network consists of nearly 40 radio affiliates that cover the Commonwealth of Virginia and several neighboring states. The VT network is one of the most expansive and successful within IMG Audio, the nation’s largest independent sports radio network producing nearly 30,000 hours of intercollegiate sports programming each year.

“Our Virginia Tech fan base and our corporate sponsors have been tremendously pleased with our partnership with The Fan over the years,” said Bill Roth, Virginia Tech IMG Sports Network’s director of broadcasting. “It’s an outstanding station with tremendous leadership. With a big signal in a big market, The Fan provides the Hokies with outstanding coverage in an important geographical region filled with passionate fans. We’re delighted to extend this very successful partnership.”
