BLACKSBURG – Three home football games have been designated as “Effect” games for the 2012 season. “Orange Effect” will take place for the season opener Sept. 3, as the Hokies battle Georgia Tech. In addition, a “White Effect” is planned for the fifth consecutive year and is scheduled for the Hokies’ contest with Austin Peay on Sept. 8, at 1:30 p.m. with Maroon Effect taking place on Oct. 13 when the Hokies battle the Duke Blue Devils.
Each of the three T-shirts are available for purchase from the University Bookstores, including the University Bookstore on campus, Volume Two Bookstore at University Mall and the Hokie Shops in Lane Stadium. They are also available online at www.bookstore.vt.edu. White Effect and Orange Effect shirts are $7 and Maroon Effect shirts are $11.
Proceeds from White Effect sales will go to Herma’s Readers, a non-profit organization that promotes the power of reading and literacy to youngsters during their formative years, grades K-3. The organization is a tribute to Tech coach Frank Beamer’s late mother, Herma Beamer, who taught in Virginia for over 30 years.
