    Cole earns Academic All-District honors
Defensive back advances to national ballot

BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech football player Michael Cole has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District III Football Squad for the University Level as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The awards recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom.

Cole, from Roanoke, Va., is one of four defensive backs on the academic squad. The redshirt-freshman has played in all nine games entering tonight’s contest against Florida State, making three starts. He has 41 tackles, including one for a loss, to go along with two interceptions, a fumble recovery, two quarterback hurries and a pass break up.

Nominations and voting for the All-America programs are conducted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America. There is a University Division (Division I programs) and a College Division (DII, DIII, NAIA, NJCAA programs).

Those on the all-district teams are now placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
