    Fighting Gobbler helmets to be put up for auction
    Funds donated to Herma's Readers and Sandy Hook Elementary School Relief Fund

    BLACKSBURG — The Virginia Tech football program announced today the “Fighting Gobbler” helmets worn during the Hokies’ bowl win over Rutgers will be auctioned off online at hokiesports.com, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Sandy Hook Elementary School Relief Fund and the remaining funds going to Herma’s Readers.

    The maroon helmets feature the “Fighting Gobbler” in addition to a commemorative ribbon decal to honor the victims of the tragedy that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., this past December.

    The online auction will begin at 2 p.m, Friday, Jan. 4, and will continue through Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 5 p.m. Anyone wishing to bid on the helmet can do so by logging onto hokiesports.com/auction. There will be a minimum bid of $400 and all orders will have a $25 shipping fee added to the end of the bid.
