BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech will travel to national power Ohio State on Sept. 6 next year instead of on Sept. 20, as was originally scheduled. ESPN approached both schools about the date change and the possibility of either a full national telecast at 3:30 p.m. on ABC or a primetime telecast. Both schools supported the change.
The Hokies will open the 2014 season on Aug. 30 at home against William & Mary, then travel to Columbus, Ohio, on Sept. 6. Tech will round out its non-conference schedule on Sept. 13 at home against East Carolina and on Sept. 27 at home against Western Michigan. The Hokies did not previously have a game scheduled on Sept. 6, so no schedule changes were necessary.
Tech will host Georgia Tech, Miami, Boston College and Virginia and will travel to Duke, Pitt, North Carolina and Wake Forest next year in conference action. Those dates will be released in 2014 when the ACC releases the entire league slate.
The Hokies and Buckeyes will play the back end of a home-and-home in 2015, opening the season on Labor Day Monday night on Sept. 7 in Blacksburg on ESPN.
