What's new at Lane Stadium in 2014
BLACKSBURG - Hokie Football will open the 50th year of Lane Stadium on Saturday, August 30 at 4 p.m. as Tech takes on William & Mary. Here are a few new things the Hokie Nation can look forward to when attending games this season.

The Debut of Hokie Village
Hokie Village will open 3.5 hours before kickoff and stays open up to 45 minutes before game time. The Village will be held on the turf soccer practice field (across from Lane Stadium) and can be accessed by both the Spring Road gate entrance (Lot 1) and the Thompson Field entrance.

With kickoff slated for 4 p.m., Hokie Village will open at 12:30 p.m. and will close at 3:15 p.m.

In addition to inflatables, tailgating games, concessions, campus displays and game sponsors on site, Hokie Village will also feature:

• The nationally ranked Virginia Tech wrestling team will hold an open sparring session
• DJ TMMPO will be in the DJ booth
• The Tech Bookstore will be on hand
• The Virginia Tech Spirit Squad will sign posters from 12:30-1:30 p.m., and will then mingle with fans in Hokie Village after the team walk at 2 p.m.
• The Virginia Tech women’s basketball team will sign autographs at 2:15 p.m.
• An appearance by the HokieBird

Skipper 3-2-1
To signify the start of Hokie Village, Skipper will fire 3.5 hours prior to kickoff. Additionally, Skipper will fire when the stadium gates open (2 hours prior to kickoff) and with one hour remaining until kickoff.

Hokies Xtra Gameday App
To assist fans with all the happenings in and around gameday, a free app was created, which can be accessed by searching on the Apple iTunes Store or Google Play for VT Gameday. Click here for the release.

Additionally, Hokie fans can always access our Gameday Central by clicking here.

Social Media Wall
We’ve created a social media wall new this season. For a chance to connect with other Hokies and see your tweets and pictures on the videoboard or on our website, tweet #Hokies.

The Hokie Huddle
Debuting on today is our new insider’s look at football gameday, the Hokie Huddle.

Recognizing fans’ need for quality concessions at affordable prices, we have upgraded concession areas on the east side with new pizza ovens for fresher pizzas and new offerings throughout the concourse, including smoked pork BBQ sandwiches and BBQ nachos at locations in the south end zone and east side near section 5. Additionally, we will have a new grill stand in the southwest plaza area. Concessions prices have not been raised since last year.

Esprit de Corps
New this year, the Corps of Cadets and Virginia Tech Athletics are excited to introduce “Esprit de Corps”! This group of cadets will lead the over 1,000 members of the Corps (as well as all Hokie fans in the south end zone) in cheers during each game. They will lead the traditional Hokie favorites such as “Let’s Go Hokies” and the “Hokie Pokie,” but also will pioneer some unique cadet cheers as well. When the football team scores, this group will lead the first-year cadets and the stadium in pushups. Esprit de Corps will participate in many other game day activities with the VT cheerleaders, and they hope to add a unique and new approach to “Hokie Spirit” for the Corps and the University.

Videoboard Features
Fans may enjoy a clean, polished redesign of our videoboard to enhance the fan experience, including several new interactive features and, for the first time ever, exclusive access to the postgame press conference, live on HokieVision.

Game Programs
Rather than charge for game programs, this year, fans will be offered a free game program, available as you enter Lane Stadium.

Increased Recycling
To increase our sustainability efforts, Virginia Tech Athletics and on-campus officials will have recycling options throughout the tailgate areas. Additionally, we have collaborated with Coca-Cola to provide more recycling bins throughout the concourses and the Indoor and Outdoor Club lounge areas of Lane Stadium.

Music and More
Music can be enjoyed both in and outside of Lane Stadium this season. Specifically:
• Live music will be outside of Gate 3 for the William & Mary game, beginning at 2 p.m.
• In game, The Marching Virginians and the Highty-Tighties will have amplified sound for your listening enjoyment.
• Fans can also listen to Bill Roth and Mike Burnop live throughout the stadium on HokiesXtra and also streamed for free on, iPhone, or Android.

A limited number of season tickets also remain for the 2014 football season. To purchase season tickets or single-game tickets to the William & Mary, East Carolina, Georgia Tech, Western Michigan or Boston College games, log on to or call the Virginia Tech Athletics Ticket Office at (540) 231-6731 or toll-free at 1-800 VA TECH4 (1-800-828-3244).
