Virginia Tech (4-3, 1-2 ACC) will return to action this Thursday night, hosting the University of Miami (4-3, 1-2 ACC) at Lane Stadium/Worsham Field in a key Coastal Division showdown. Kickoff is set for 8:02 p.m. Rece Davis, Jesse Palmer, David Pollack and Samantha Ponder will have the call for ESPN.

The Series
• Thursday’s game will be the 32nd football meeting between Virginia Tech and the University of Miami with Miami holding an 18-13 lead in the series. The two schools first met on the gridiron during the 1953 season, continuing on as members of the Big East Conference and now as members of the ACC.
• After Tech won three games in a row (2009-11), the Hurricanes won in 2012 in Miami Gardens, 30-12. Last year, the Hokies downed No. 14 Miami 42-24 on the road.
• Miami won the first 12 games in the series, spanning from 1953 to 1994. The Hokies’ first win came in 1995 en route to a 10-2 season. The Hokies won five in a row before the ‘Canes took three in a row from 2000-2002.
• Virginia Tech has won six of the last eight meetings between the two and holds a 7-5 record against the Hurricanes in Lane Stadium. Since the two squads joined the ACC in 2004, Virginia Tech owns a 7-3 lead in the series. Tech and Miami split their 12 meetings as members of the Big East.
• The visiting team has won five of the past 10 games, and six of the past 13.
• Miami was ranked No. 1 in the country in 1992, 2001 and 2002 when Tech played the Hurricanes.
• The two have met twice in bowl games with Miami winning 14-7 in the 1966 Liberty Bowl and 20-10 in the 1980 Peach Bowl.

Overall On Thursdays
• Playing on Thursday used to be routine for Virginia Tech grid teams as Tech and VMI clashed in Roanoke every Thanksgiving afternoon except for two from 1913 through 1969 in what once was known as “The Military Classic of the South.” Overall, Tech has a 66-35-5 record in games played on Thursday.
• This will be the Hokies’ 29th appearance on ESPN Thursday Night Football - the most in college football - where they are 20-8 overall (11-4 at home; 9-4 on the road).
• Tech and Miami have never played a Thursday game in Lane Stadium.

Tickets Still Available
• Good seats still remain for the game after Miami returned a portion of its allotment. Fans wishing to catch the action Thursday night can purchase tickets 24/7 through www.hokietickets.com
