Fuller named to Thorpe Award Watch List
Tech junior seeks to become first Hokie player to win accolade

Virginia Tech defensive back Kendall Fuller was named today to the “watch list” for the 2015 Jim Thorpe Award, presented annually to college football’s top defensive back.

Fuller, a Baltimore, Maryland, native, was a second-team All-American a year ago (Walter Camp, Fox Sports and USA Today) and a first-team All-ACC choice by both the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association and the league’s coaches. He started all 13 games as a sophomore and had 54 tackles (32 solo), including 4.5 for a loss. He also had two interceptions and two sacks.

Established in 1986, the Jim Thorpe Award is named after history’s greatest all-around athlete. Thorpe excelled as a running back, passer and kicker on the offensive side of the ball, but also stood out as a defensive back. In addition to his legendary performance on the football field, Thorpe played professional baseball and won Olympic gold medals in the decathlon and pentathlon.

The Thorpe Award Winner is selected from three finalists and will be announced at The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, Dec. 10 on ESPN.

The Jim Thorpe Award Banquet will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
