Recapping the 2017 ESPN Car Wash

BLACKSBURG – Less than two weeks after meeting with a throng of media members at the 2017 ACC Football Kickoff event held at the Westin in Charlotte, Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente found himself garnering media attention once again, as he participated in ESPN’s “Car Wash” event Tuesday in Bristol, Connecticut.

The Car Wash occurs each July, as ESPN network officials bring in head coaches from each conference over a week’s period at the end of July to discuss the upcoming football season with various ESPN personalities. The appearance marked the second for Fuente, who took part last year before he had coached a game for the Hokies.

With daughter Caroline at his side – and carrying the Hokies’ lunch pail – Fuente took part in the Championship Drive Podcast with Ivan Maisel, and he gave exclusive interviews to’s Heather Dinich, Alex Scarborough and Hallie Grossman.

Fuente’s afternoon first consisted of a live interview on Coast to Coast SportsCenter with David Lloyd. Fuente received questions about his first year, about Jerod Evans’ decision to forgo his final season and make himself available for the NFL Draft and about the current quarterback situation. Fuente’s afternoon ended with an appearance on Highly Questionable, a daily sports talk television program with Dan Le Batard as the host, and on The Paul Finebaum Show, a podcast run by popular Paul Finebaum, a television and radio personality who focuses mostly on college football.

Throughout the day, Fuente gave snippets of his philosophy, and more importantly, his vision for the program. Some of those can be viewed through the following tweets:

Fuente meets with the local and regional press outlets next Tuesday for one final press session before the Hokies open fall practice Tuesday. Tech opens the season Sept. 3 against West Virginia at FedExField in Landover, Maryland.
