Hokies Third After Day One at Matlock

Lakeland, Fla. -- Virginia Tech shot a 13-over-par 289-300=589 and is tied for third place after the first two rounds of the Matlock Invitational at the 7,065 yard, par-72 Grasslands Golf and Country Club in Lakeland, Fla. Monday afternoon.
Senior Brian Krusoe (Northfield, Ohio) shot a two-over-par 70-76=146 on the afternoon and is tied for 11th place and junior Brendon de Jonge (Harare, Zimbabwe) is tied for 15th place after shooting a three-over-par 71-76=147.
Senior Johnson Wagner (Garrison, N.Y.) and sophomore Ryan Stinnett (Amherst, Va.) are tied for 20th place at five-over-par 149. Wagner shot 74-75=149 amd Stinnett shot 76-73=149. Junior Chris McKeel (Wilson, N.C.) is tied for 26th with a six-over-par 74-76=150.
Tulsa leads the event after shooting two-over-par 291-287=578. The Golden Hurricane leads second-place Colorado by two strokes, after the Buffaloes shot a four-over-par 284-296=580. The Hokies are tied with Missouri and Alabama in third place at 589. Host and defending champion Florida Southern is in sixth place at 591, followed by Campbell in seventh place at 597, UNC Wilmington in eighth at 601, Old Dominion in ninth at 602 and Kentucky in 10th place at 604.
The final round of the tournament will be played Tuesday morning. This is the first tournament of the spring for the Hokies, who finished fourth in last season's Matlock Invitational.
