Tech Ties for Sixth at Matlock

LAKELAND, Fla. - Virginia Tech shot a three-round total of 877 and finished tied for sixth place at the Matlock Collegiate Classic at the 7,065-yard, par-72 Grasslands Golf and Country Club in Lakeland, Fla.
Senior Brendon de Jonge (Harare, Zimbabwe) shot a six-under par 210 to take second place, finishing one stroke behind the leader, Old Dominion's Geoffrey Harris. de Jonge, who began the day tied for 11th, fired a 67 in the final round to move up the leaderboard.
Senior Chris McKeel (Wilson, N.C.) tied for 18th place at 218, while redshirt sophomore Scott Wise (Roanoke, Va.) tied for 46th at 225. Junior Ryan Stinnett (Amherst, Va.) finished in a tie for 56th with a 227, while redshirt junior Matt Hollerbach (Tulsa, Okla.) came in 81st at 235.
The University of Tulsa moved from fourth place to first after shooting a tournament-low round of 284 on Tuesday, finishing at 866. UNC Wilmington finished second at 867 while Miami of Ohio came in third place at 868, Rollins College and Ohio State finished fourth and fifth with totals of 873 and 876, respectively. Florida Southern tied with the Hokies at 877. Colorado (878), Old Dominion (879) and Missouri (880) rounded out the top 10.
The Hokies return to action March 10, as they travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C., to compete in the Coastal Carolina Intercollegiate at the Tournament Players Club.
