Hokies Tied for Second at Coastal Carolina

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Virginia Tech shot an opening day total of 297-294=591 and is tied for second place entering Tuesday's final round of Coastal Carolina Men's Golf Invitational at the 6,950 yard, par-72 TPC of Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet, S.C.
Senior Chris McKeel (Wilson, N.C.) is tied for fifth place following rounds of 73 and 72. His 145 total is two strokes behind leader Ted Brown of VCU, at 143.
Senior Brendon de Jonge (Harare, Zimbabwe) is tied for eighth at 146. Junior Ryan Stinnett (Amherst, Va.) and redshirt sophomore Scott Wise (Vinton, Va.) are tied for 19th at 151. Freshman Joel Kraner (Dublin, Ohio) is tied for 42nd at 154, along with redshirt junior Matt Hollerbach (Tulsa, Okla.), who is competing as an individual in the event.
UNC Wilmington leads the event at 589, two strokes better than Tech and Arkansas at 591. Central Florida is fourth at 593 and Washington State rounds out the top five at 604.
The Hokies conclude the event on Tuesday, as they will tee off in the final group of the day. Tech continues action this weekend, as they travel to Huntersville, N.C. to compete in the Birkdale Collegiate Invitational.
