GREENVILLE, N.C. - Virginia Tech shot a 298, good for third place after the first round of the Ironwood Intercollegiate Sunday afternoon. The event is being played at the 7,049-yard Ironwood Golf Club in Greenville, N.C.
Hokie Ryan Stinnett is tied with Alex Larrazabal of Coastal Carolina for first place, after shooting an opening-round 71. Johnson Wagner is tied for fifth place with a 73 and Chris McKeel shot a 75, good for a tie for 18th place. Brendon de Jonge shot a 79 and is tied for 45th place and Brian Krusoe shot an 80 and is tied for 55th place.
Furman leads the 18-team tournament after shooting an opening round 294. Host East Carolina is second with a 297, one stroke better than the Hokies. Coastal Carolina is fourth with a 301 and UNC Wilmington is fifth with a 303.
The second round will be played on Monday, before the tournament wraps up on Tuesday afternoon.
