Hokies Finish 12th at Hackler
Wise ties for 18th individually

Murrells Inlet, S.C. -- Virginia Tech shot a three-round total of 926 and finished in 12th place at the General Jim Hackler Invitational at the 6,950 yard, par-72 TPC of Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet, S.C. on Monday afternoon.
Redshirt senior Scott Wise (Vinton, Va.) led the Hokies with a three-round total of 226, good for a tie for 18th place. Rhys Davies of East Tennessee State claimed medalist honors at two-under-par 214. Wise shot even-par 72 in Monday's final round.
Freshman Nick MacDonald (Harare, Zimbabwe) finished tied for 39th, at 232 and sophomore Ryan Sypniewski (Radford, Va.) tied for 46th at 234. Junior Joel Kraner (Dublin, Ohio) finished in 52nd place at 239 and sophomore Carl Wakely (Cardiff, Wales) was 58th at 244. Freshman Will Oldham (Richmond, Va.) played the event as an individual and finished in 64th place at 249.
Tournament host Coastal Carolina won the event at 886, five strokes ahead of second place Notre Dame. Purdue was third at 895, Kansas State was fourth at 900 and Louisville finished fifth at 901. UNC Wilmington, East Tennessee State, North florida, Pepperdine and Central Florida rounded out the top 10. Furman finished in 11th place at 916, 10 strokes ahead of the Hokies.
The Hokies were tied for ninth entering the second round after shooting a 303 in the Sunday morning session. Tech shot a 316 in Sunday afternoon's second round. Tech finished with a final round 307, which was tied for the sixth-best round of Monday.
