Hokies Move Up to 3rd at Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Virginia Tech shot the best round of round two on Saturday, a three-under-par 285 and has moved into third place with a two-day total of 584 in the Furman Intercollegiate at the 6,800 yard, par-72 Furman University Golf Club in Greenville, S.C.
Junior Brendon de Jonge (Harare, Zimbabwe) has taken the lead in the event after shooting a second round three-under-par 69. It was the only sub-70 round of the day. Senior Brian Krusoe (Northfield, Ohio) is tied for 13th place, with a three-over-par 74-73=147. Senior Johnson Wagner (Garrison, N.Y.) is tied for 20th place with a four-over-par 77-71=148 and junior Chris McKeel (Wilson, N.C.) is tied for 29th, at six-over-par 77-73=150. Sophomore Ryan Stinnett (Amherst, Va.) is tied for 62nd at 82-72=154. Sophomore Matt Hollerbach (Tulsa, Okla.), competing in the event as an individual, is tied for 77th place with a 78-79=157.
The Hokies entered the round tied for sixth place at 299, but today's 285 moved Tech into third place, just one stroke behind co-leaders Furman and Coastal Carolina, which lead the event at seven-over-par 583. After the Hokies in third place, East Carolina is fourth at 587 and Wofford is in fifth at 592.
The third round of the tournament will be played on Sunday morning. Tech is the event's defending champion.
