Hokies Finish Ninth at Raleigh

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Virginia Tech shot a three-round total of 864 and finished ninth at The Intercollegiate at the 6,782 yard, par-71 Raleigh Country Club in Raleigh, N.C. on Sunday afternoon.
Senior Brendon de Jonge (Harare, Zimbabwe) shot a final round 70 and finished in a tie for eighth place with a three-round total of two-under-par 211. Chris Noel of Tulsa won medalist honors with a 207, four strokes ahead of de Jonge.
Freshman Joel Kraner (Dublin, Ohio) tied for 19th place with a 215. Redshirt sophomore Scott Wise (Vinton, Va.) tied for 42nd place at 215. Senior Chris McKeel (Wilson, N.C.) tied for 46th place at 221 and junior Ryan Stinnett (Amherst, Va.) tied for 55th at 223.
SMU shot a final round 279 and won the tournament by four strokes over Tulsa and co-host North Carolina, at 847. Wake Forest finished fourth at 852 and Tennessee was fifth at 855. Georgia Southern and co-host North Carolina State tied for sixth place at 856 and defending national champion Minnesota was eighth at 857, seven strokes ahead of the Hokies. Kansas and East Tennessee State rounded out the top 10, tying for 10th at 876.
This tournament completes the Hokies' 2002-03 regular season. Next, Tech travels to the 2003 BIG EAST Conference Championship on April 21-22 at the Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind.
