Hokies Ninth After Day One at Cleveland/ASU

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Virginia Tech shot a two-round total of 573 and are in ninth place after the first day of the Cleveland Golf/ASU Invitational at the 6,840 yard, par-72 Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
Senior Johnson Wagner (Garrison, N.Y.) is tied for 12th place with a five-under-par 72-67=139. Junior Brendon de Jonge (Harare, Zimbabwe) is tied for 17th with a four-under-par 71-69=140. Junior Chris McKeel (Wilson, N.C.) and sophomore Ryan Stinnett (Amherst, Va.) are tied for 57th place, after each shot a three-over-par 147 for the first two rounds. Senior Brian Krusoe (Northfield, Ohio) is in 86th place with an 11-over-par 79-76=155.
Tennessee leads the event with a 21-under-par, two round total of 283-272=555. Wake Forest is second with a 560, followed by Florida, Clemson and North Carolina State in a tie for third place at 567. North Florida is fifth place at 571, followed by Duke and host Augusta State at 572. The Hokies are ninth at 287-286=573, followed by North Carolina and Georgia at 575, rounding out the top 10.
The final round of the tournament will be played Sunday morning. The event boasts seven of the top 25 teams in the nation. The Hokies are currently ranked 12th in the Precept/GCAA poll.
