Stinnett tied for fourth individually

Cary, N.C. -- Virginia Tech shot a 13-over-par 589 over the first two rounds and is in 11th place at the Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate at the par-72, 6,867 Macgregor Downs Country Club in Cary, N.C. on Friday.
Senior Ryan Stinnett (Amherst, Va.) is tied for fourth, at five-under-par 139. Stinnett opened the day with a four-under-par 68 and then shot a one-under 71 in the second round. He trails tournament leader Bill Haas of Wake Forest by six strokes.
Sophomore Joel Kraner (Dublin, Ohio) is tied for 31st at 148. Redshirt junior Scott Wise (Vinton, Va.) and redshirt senior Matt Hollerbach (Tulsa, Okla.) are each tied for 55th at 151. Freshman Ryan Sypniewski (Radford, Va.) is tied for 76th place at 155.
Kansas leads the event at 14-under-par 562, three strokes ahead of Duke, at 565. Minnesota is third at 575 and Wake Forest is fourth at 575. Host NC State, SMU, Georgia Southern, North Florida, Tennessee and North Carolina round out the top 10. The Tar Heels and Volunteers are tied for ninth at 588, one stroke ahead of the Hokies in the 15 team event.
The Hokies shot a 296 in the first round of the day, and a 293 in the second round. The tournament's final round will be played Saturday morning at Macgregor Downs.
