Hokies Finish 8th at UNC

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Virginia Tech shot a three-round total of 888 and finished in eighth place in the Franklin Street Partners Invitational at the par 72, 7,199-yard UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Sunday afternoon.
Redshirt senior Scott Wise (Vinton, Va.) paced the Hokies with a total of four-over-par 220. David Palm of Georgia Southern claimed medalist honors at the event with a three-round total of nine-under-par 207.
Freshman Chad Fultz (Staunton, Va.) finished 23rd overall at 221 and sophomore Ryan Sypniewski (Radford, Va.) tied for 33rd at 226. Junior Sam Nicholson (Augusta, Ga.) finished tied for 37th at 228 and junior Joel Kraner (Dublin, Ohio), finished tied for 39th at 229.
Host North Carolina won the tournament with a three-round total of 25-under-par 839, six strokes ahead of runner-up Georgia Southern. Virginia was third at 859 and East Tennessee State was fourth at 875. UNC Charlotte was fifth at 877, one stroke ahead of sixth place Tulsa. UNC Wilmington was seventh at 879, nine strokes ahead of Tech. East Carolina finished ninth at 891.
The Hokies were tied for seventh entering Sunday's final 18 holes. Tech shot a final round 298. The Hokies return to action on Oct. 17-18 at the Duke Golf Classic at the Duke University Golf Course in Durham, N.C.
