Tech's De Jonge In Third Place
The Hokies Are Currently In Seventh Place

NEWPORT, R.I. -- Freshman Brendon de Jonge (Harare, Zimbabwe) of the Virginia Tech golf team is in third place after two rounds of The Adams Cup of Newport Golf Tournament in Newport, R.I. The team is currently in seventh place.
De Jonge shot rounds of 70 and 77 for a 147 total on the par 70, 6658-yard layout of the Newport Country Club. His even par round of 70 was the low score of the first round.
The Hokies fired rounds of 309-309--618. Furman University is leading the event with a 33-over-par score of 593. The host team Rhode Island is back in fourth place with a two round total of 608.
The course was playing very tough and it conquered the field. No participant in the field is even or below par after the first two rounds. Brian Scurlock of Furman is leading the event with a 3-over-par score of 143.
The final round of competition will be held on Thursday at the Point Judith Country Club in nearby Narragansett, R.I.
