DURHAM, N.C. -- Virginia Tech shot a five-over-par 293 to take a six-stroke lead after the first round of the Duke Golf Classic at the 7,045-yard, par-72 Duke Golf Club in Durham, N.C on Sunday afternoon.

The tournament's second round, scheduled for Sunday afternoon, was stopped due to inclement weather and is scheduled to be completed on Monday along with the event's third and final round.

Senior Johnson Wagner (Garrison, N.Y.) and sophomore Ryan Stinnett (Amherst, Va.) each fired a one-under-par 71 in the opening round and are tied for second place, two strokes behind Eric Jorgenson of Michigan State.

Senior Brian Krusoe (Northfield, Ohio) shot a three-over-par 75 and is tied for 21st place and junior Brendon de Jonge (Harare, Zimbabwe) is tied for 29th place after shooting a four-over-par 76. Junior Chris McKeel (Wilson, N.C.) is tied for 46th place with a six-over-par 78.

The Hokies lead second place Tulsa by six strokes after the first round. The Golden Hurricane shot an 11-over-par 299. Augusta State and Georgia Southern are tied for third at 300 and Virginia and Michigan State are tied for fifth at 302.

The Duke Golf Classic is being played on the same course that hosted last year's NCAA Golf Championship. Eight teams and one addititional player in this event participated in the NCAA Championship, where the Hokies finished eighth.
