Hokies Finish In Seventh Place

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. -- The Virginia Tech menâs golf fired a three-round total of 929 to finish in seventh place at The Adams Cup of Newport Golf Tournament.
Todayâs final round was played at the par 70, 6447-yard layout of the Point Judith Country Club in Narragansett, R.I. The first two rounds were played on the nearby Newport Country Club. The Hokies shot 309-309-311 despite playing in winds that were sometimes as high as 50 mph.
Freshman Brendon de Jonge (Harare, Zimbabwe) finished in a tie for 11th place after shooting rounds of 70-77-79--226. This is the first time this year he has been the top finisher for the Hokies. Sophomore Brian Krusoe (Northfield, Ohio) finished right behind de Jonge. He ended up in 13th place after firing rounds of 79-72-76--227.
The University of Toledo won the event with a three-round total of 903. They started the day 13 shots of the lead but stormed back to finish 11 strokes in front of second place Michigan State. The University of Rhode Island, the host team, finished 18 shots back in sixth place.
The Hokies next competition will be the ODU/SeaScape Collegiate Invitational in Nags Head, N.C. on the 25th and 26th of October.
