Tech Golfers Tie For Second In Duke Golf Classic
Hokies Led by Dejonge and Krusoe

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech golf team finished in a tie for second place in the Duke Golf Classic held at the Duke Golf Club in Durham, N.C. The Hokies finished 16-over-par along with host Duke and Augusta State.

Brendon De Jonge (Harare, Zimbabwe) shot a one-under-par for the tournament leaving him in a tie for fourth place along with Matt Krauss from Duke. Brian Krusoe (Northfield, Ohio) shot a final round 77 leaving him six-over-par for the tournament and in a tie for 20th place. Sophomore Chris McKeel (Wilson, N.C.) finished in tie for 29th while Ryan Stinnett (Amherst, Va.) and Johnson Wagner (Garrison, N.Y.) finished 38th and 52nd respectively.

North Carolina State won the overall team title finishing with a three round total of 876 leaving them twelve-over-par. Wake Forest's Brent Wanner shot a 75-65-71 on the par-72 course to take the individual title.

The Robert Trent Jones-designed Duke Golf Course will be the home of the 2001 NCAA Men's Golf Championships.

Virginia Tech will next compete in the NCAA East Regional Fall Preview held at Ford's Colony-Marsh Hawk in Williamsburg, Va., Oct. 23-24.
