Hokies Fourth at ODU/Seascape

KITTY HAWK, N.C. -- Virginia Tech shot a 295, good for fourth place after the first round of the ODU/Seascape Collegiate Invitational at the Seascape Golf Course in Kitty Hawk, N.C. on Monday afternoon. The Hokies are the defending champion of the event.
Junior Brendon de Jonge (Harare, Zimbabwe), last year's medalist in the event, is tied for third place after shooting a first-round 69. He and Matt Davidson of Furman trail co-leaders Peter Toole of Maryland and Bill Lewis of UNC Wilmington by one stroke.
Senior Johnson Wagner (Garrison, N.Y.) and sophomore Ryan Stinnett (Amherst, Va.) each shot a 74 in the opening round and are tied for 20th place. Sophomore Matt Hollerbach (Tulsa, Okla.), making his first appearance of the season in the Tech lineup, shot a 78 and is tied for 45th place and junior Chris McKeel (Wilson, N.C.) is tied for 53rd place with a 79.
Maryland leads the event after firing an opening-round 283. UNC Wilmington is second at 288 and Furman is third at 290, five strokes ahead of the Hokies. Host Old Dominion is fifth at 297. Ohio, Charlotte, Charleston Southern, Francis Marion and William & Mary round out the top 10. The final round of the 21-team event will be played Tuesday.
