HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Virginia Tech fired a final-round one-over-par 285 on Sunday afternoon to finish tied for sixth at the Long Cove Collegiate Invitational. The event was played at the 7,026-yard, par-71 Long Cove Golf Club in Hilton Head, S.C. The Hokies posted a total of 880 in the 15-team field that features most of the top teams in the country.

Junior Brendon de Jonge (Harare, Zimbabwe) finished in a four-way tie for fifth place at even-par 213, after shooting a four-under-par 67 in the final round. His 67 was tied for the second-lowest round of the day and of the tournament. De Jonge finished seven strokes behind medalist David Oh of Southern California, who shot seven-under-par 206.

Senior Johnson Wagner (Garrison, N.Y.) shot a final-round 69 and finished with a three-day total of 218, good for a tie at 16th place. Sophomore Ryan Stinnett (Amherst, Va.) finished in a tie for 26th place at 222. Senior Brian Krusoe (Northfield, Ohio) was tied for 47th place at 227 and sophomore Matt Hollerbach (Tulsa, Okla.) was 74th at 244.

Georgia Tech won the tournament with a three-day total of three-over-par 855, including a four-under-par 280 on Sunday. Southern California was 16 strokes back at 871 and Clemson was third at 872. Oklahoma State was fourth at 874 and Wake Forest was fifth at 878, two strokes ahead of Tech and Arizona State. Texas was eighth at 882 and Augusta State was ninth at 884. Georgia rounded out the top 10 at 886.

This is the Hokies final event of the fall season. Tech opens the spring season on Feb 18-19 at the Matlock Collegiate Classic at the Grasslands Golf Club in Lakeland, Fla.
