Hokies Finish Ninth at ACC Golf
Sypniewski finishes 24th individually

NEW LONDON, N.C. - Virginia Tech shot a three-round total of 872 and finished in ninth place at the ACC Men's Golf Championship at the 7,108 yard, par 72 Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point in New London, N.C. on Sunday evening.

Virginia Tech completed its second round, which was suspended Saturday night due to inclement weather, with a two-under-par 286 and shot 295 in the final round on Sunday.

Junior Ryan Sypniewski (Radford, Va.) tied for 24th place with a three-round total of one-under-par 215. Cameron Tringale of Georgia Tech claimed medalist honors with a total of 206, one stroke better than Kyle Reifers of Wake Forest. Sypniewski completed his suspended second round at three-under-par 69 and followed that with a 73 in the third round.

Sophomore Jurrian van der Vaart (Almelo, the Netherlands) was tied for 26th place with a total of even-par 216. Sophomore Nick MacDonald (Harare, Zimbabwe) tied for 28th place at 217. MacDonald shot one-under-par 71 for the Hokies' best round of Sunday.

Junior Carl Wakely (Cardiff, Wales) tied for 47th at 228 and freshman Drew Weaver (High Point, N.C.) 49th at 229.

Georgia Tech and North Carolina were declared co-champions following a two-hole play-off. The two teams tied after the two holes and darkness forced the end of the event. The teams tied at 31-under-par 833 after 54 holes. Clemson was third at 844, North Carolina State was fourth at 853 and Wake Forest was fifth at 860. Florida State was sixth at 863, Maryland was seventh at 865 and Duke was eighth at 866, sixth strokes better than the Hokies. Virginia finished 10th at 878 and Boston College was 11th at 921.

The tournament concludes the Hokies' 2005-06 season.
