WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Virginia Tech golfer Jurrian van der Vaart shot a three-over-par 75 and is tied for 54^th place at the NCAA Men's Golf Championship at the 7,450-yard, par 72 Kampen Course of the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., on Thursday afternoon.

Van der Vaart, a senior from Almelo, the Netherlands, improved from his opening round 77. He has a two-day total of 152 and is one of nine golfers at plus-eight for the tournament.

Billy Horschel of Florida shot the tournament's best round so far on Thursday, a five-under-par 67 and has a two-round total of five-under-par 139, one stroke ahead of Kyle Stanley of Clemson. Only seven players are even-par-or-better in the event.

Clemson shot the first and only par-or-better team round of the championship so far with an even-par 288 and have a two-day total of 13-over-par 589 and hold a one stroke lead over opening round co-leader UCLA. The other day-one co-leader, Southern California is third at 591, Florida is fourth at 593 and Oklahoma State is fifth at 594..

Van der Vaart will tee off at 8:55 a.m., on Friday morning and will be grouped with Derek Tolan of Colorado and Joel Sjoholm of Georgia State. The top 15 teams and top six individuals of non-advancing teams following tomorrow's third round will advance to Saturday's final round.
