MACON, Ga. -- Virginia Tech shot a three-round total of 875 and finished fifth in the Brickyard Collegiate Championship at the par 72, 7,128-yard Brickyard at Riverside golf course on Monday afternoon.

The Hokies shot an 18-over-par 298 on Monday to finish to fifth. Tech entered the final round tied for the lead with Georgia and Georgia Tech.

Senior Drew Weaver (High Point, N.C.) was the Hokies top finisher, shooting a three-round total of two-over-par 212. He finished in second place, one stroke behind medalist Cameron Tringale of Georgia Tech. Weaver’s one-over-par 71 was the Hokies’ best round of the day.

Sophomore Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Va.) shot 220 and tied for 28th place, while fellow sophomore Aaron Eckstein (Salem, Va.) tied for 36th place at 222. Redshirt senior Will Oldham (Spartanburg, S.C.) tied for 50th place at 226 and redshirt junior Matt Boyd (Sugar Land, Tex.) tied for 54th at 227.

Georgia won the team title at 19-over-par 859, five strokes ahead of runner-up Georgia Tech. Clemson was third at 866 and Florida State was fourth at 873, two strokes ahead of the Hokies. Penn State was sixth at 877, Duke was seventh at 878, Augusta State was eighth at 881, Charlotte was ninth at 882 and Wake Forest was 10th at 883. Chattanooga was 11th at 886, Hartford was 12th at 898, host Mercer was 13th at 899, Oregon was 14th at 902 and Kennesaw State was 15th at 905.

The tournament, in its second year, boasted a field that included eight of the top 25 teams in the nation, according to the Golf World/Nike coaches poll. Four of the eight teams, Georgia (4), Clemson (6), Chattanooga (9) and Florida State (10) are ranked in the top 10. Virginia Tech was one of six ACC teams in the event.

The Hokies complete the fall portion of the schedule on Oct. 24-26, as they look to defend their title at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C.
