GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Persistent rains and standing water forced the suspension of the opening round of the 40th Annual Furman Intercollegiate shortly after 6:00 p.m. on Friday with 11 teams, including Virginia Tech and host Furman, yet to complete 18 holes at the par-72 Furman University Golf Course.

The tournament began at 8 a.m. on Friday, but was delayed by standing water in the fairways and on several greens at 12:45 p.m. Play resumed at 3:25 p.m. before being suspended at 6 p.m.
First round play is scheduled to resume on Saturday morning at approximately 9:30 a.m. The second round, originally slated for Saturday, will be played following the completion of round one if weather permits.
