INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Pete Dye River Couse of Virginia Tech has been selected to host an NCAA Men’s Golf Regional in 2011, as announced by the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Committee on Monday afternoon. Virginia Tech will be the host institution for the event.

The Virginia Tech facility, located in nearby Pulaski County, is one of six sites selected to host regionals in 2011. Joining the River Course will be the Omni Tucson National Resort in Tucson, Ariz., with the University of Arizona as host; the Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, Colo., with the University of Colorado, Boulder as host; the Golden Ocala Golf Club in Ocala, Fla., with the University of Florida as host; Wolf Run Golf Club in Zionsville, Ind., with Indiana University, Bloomington as host; the Farms Golf Course in Rancho Santé Fe, Calif., with the University of San Diego as host.

“We are delighted that Virginia Tech has been selected as one of the six sites for the 2011 regionals,” Virginia Tech Director of Athletics Jim Weaver said. “We believe that the Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech is an outstanding golf tract for regional competition.”

This is the second time that the Hokies have hosted an NCAA regional. In 1997, Virginia Tech hosted the East Regional at the Homestead Resort’s Cascades Course. The Hokies also hosted the 2004 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship at the Cascades Course at the Homestead Resort.

Renowned golf architect Pete Dye began a renovation of The River Course of Virginia Tech in 2004. Opening in August 2005, the course was selected by Golf Digest as one of the Top 5 “Best Newly Remodeled Courses in America” for 2006. It is now included in Golf Digest’s “Best Places to Play” for 2008-2009 as a coveted 4-1/2 Star Facility. This rating was the highest awarded in Virginia, Kentucky, West Virginia and Tennessee and is also shared with The Homestead’s Cascades Course, The Meadows Course at the Greenbrier, Kingsmill’s River Course and Pinehurst Resort Courses Nos. 4, 6, 7 & 8. ‘The River’ was also selected as one of the “100 Middle Atlantic Must-Play Courses for 2008”.
