Weaver named to ACC Academic team
Recent grad named to 18-man team
July 29, 2009

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Virginia Tech golfer Drew Weaver has been named to the 2009 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Golf Academic Team, as announced by Commissioner John D. Swofford.

Weaver, the 2007 British Amateur Champion, was named the 2009 Virginia Tech ACC Male Scholar-Athlete in May, prior to his graduation from Virginia Tech. The High Point, N.C., native led the Hokies in scoring average and final round scoring average this season. He played in the 2007 British Open and the 2008 Masters. Weaver finished fifth at the 2009 ACC Men’s Golf Championship and finished 12th at the 2009 NCAA Men’s Golf Southwest Regional in Austin, Texas in May. A first-team All-ACC selection in 2009, Weaver qualified and made the cut at the 2009 U.S. Open at the famed Black Course of Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, N.Y., in June.

This is the third time in his four years in Blacksburg that Weaver has been named to the ACC All-Academic Team. He also was named to the team in 2006 and 2008. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.

This continues a long list of honors for Weaver. Earlier this month, he was named a 2009 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars for Division I and earlier in the summer, he was named a third-team All-American by PING and the GCAA.

Weaver is also one of the top student-athletes at Virginia Tech. He is a two-time member of the All-ACC Academic men’s golf team and the ACC Academic Honor Roll and was a 2008 GCAA Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar. He was recently named the male recepient of the 2009 Virginia Tech’s ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year Award.

Weaver is one of 18 members of the all-conference academic team. Cameron Tringale of Georgia Tech was named the ACC Men’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
