Women's Lacrosse Falls to North Carolina

Tar Heels explode for 22-8 victory.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.-- Led by a career-high five goals by Kristin Off, the top-ranked University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team ran its winning streak to seven matches Wednesday afternoon by defeating Virginia Tech 22-8 at Fetzer Field.

The offensive explosion by the Tar Heels resulted in a school record for goals scored in a game, breaking the 21 goals Carolina scored against Davidson in 1996, a mark which was equalled in a win over Boston College in 1997.

Six different Tar Heels scored at least two goals on Wednesday with Off leading the way with six goals and one assist. Erin McGinnis had two goals and three assists for the Tar Heels, while Lizzy Bennett had four points on two goals and two assists. Tricia Cummings (three goals), Shelley Harris (two goals, one assist( and Lori Pasquantonio (two goals, one assist) each had three points for the Tar Heels. The Hokies were led by Dawn Will, who had three goals and one assist for Virginia Tech. Maeghan O'Doherty had two goals for the Gobblers, who are now 2-4 on the season. Carolina improved to 7-0. The Tar Heels travel to Charlottesville, Va. for a big Atlantic Coast Conference matchup this Saturday against the sixth-ranked Virginia Cavaliers at the University Hall Turf Field. Game time is 2 p.m.
