Women's Lacrosse Hosts Weekend Matches
Hokies battle Ohio State and American at Johnson-Miller Complex

The Virginia Tech women's lacrosse team will host Ohio State on Fri., March 10, at 4 p.m., and American on Sunday, March 12, at 1 p.m. Both matches will be held at the Johnson-Miller Complex on the campus of Virginia Tech.
The Hokies (0-1) enter this weekend's contests after dropping a 17-6 decision to No. 2 Duke in the season-opener on Feb. 29. Tech was led by senior Dawn Will, who finished with four goals. Sam Sybert and Lisa Tsimbidis scored one goal each. Stacey Rainbolt played all 60 minutes in goal, finishing with 15 saves.
Tech leads the series with Ohio State, 4-0, after defeating the Buckeyes, 9-8, in Columbus, Ohio, on April 3, 1999. In last year's meeting, Will had four goals and one assist, and Carolyn Augustyn had three goals and one assist to lead the Hokies in the victory.
Ohio State comes into the match with a 1-0 record after defeating Gannon, 20-6, on Sunday, Mar. 5, at home. Erin Anderson, Celeste Cianfrani, Shannon Wilson and Trish Derwart each scored three goals. Cianfrani recorded a game-high six points, off three goals and three assists.
American leads the series with Virginia Tech, 3-1. The Eagles won last year's meeting, 15-12, in Washington, D.C., on April 18. Will scored five goals, Maeghan O'Doherty scored two goals and Courtney Hubbard had a goal and an assist to lead the Hokies in the loss.
In American's season-opener, freshman Nadia Harmsen tallied three goals to lead the Eagles to a 9-7 victory over Mount St. Mary's, in Washington, D.C., on Wed., March 8. AU also got two goals and two assists from Ashley Flanigan. Bridget McGeady added two goals. Goalkeeper Vickey Miller made 11 saves.
After the American match on Sunday, the Hokies hit the road for matches with UMBC (3/18), Rutgers (3/21) and Vanderbilt (3/24).
