Hokies Down Northwestern, 10-5
Dieringer scores three goals to lead Tech

Evanston, Ill. - Virginia Tech got off to a quick start and defeated Northwestern, 10-5, in women's lacrosse action Monday morning at Lakeside Field.

The Hokies scored the first seven goals of the game, including five goals in the first seven minutes, and never trailed en route to the victory. Junior Lisa Tsimbidis (Baltimore, Md.) got the scoring started on a free position goal just 1:46 into the game. Junior Lacey Dieringer (Davidsonville, Md.) scored the Hokies' second goal just 40 seconds later. Junior Samantha Sybert (Reston, Va.) ended the seven-goal run with a goal with 12:39 remaining in the first half.

Dieringer led the Hokies with three goals, while Sybert and Tsimbidis each added two goals. Sarah Albrecht scored two goals for the Wildcats. Sybert also added three assists in the contest.

Sophomore goalie Jamie McGraw (Annapolis, Md.) recorded 12 saves for Tech. The shots were even, 22-22, but Northwestern committed 30 fouls to just 15 for the Hokies. Tech scored two goals from free position shots.

Virginia Tech returns to action this weekend, as they host BIG EAST foe Boston College at noon on Saturday at Mosely Field. Tech is now 5-5 on the season, while Northwestern falls to 2-5 overall.
