April 18, 1999

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's lacrosse team earned its second Atlantic 10 victory with a 16-9 win over Duquesne University at Rector Field House on Saturday.

Tech, now 7-3 on the season and 2-1 in Atlantic 10 play, was first on the board after a free position goal by senior Chris Mastro (Latham, N.Y.). Tech kept the pressure on in the first half as juniors Maeghan O'Doherty (Annapolis, Md.) and Courtney Hubbard (Fairfax, Va.) each scored two goals apiece. Tech closed out the first half with a free position goal by freshman Jane Poole (Charlottesville, Va.).

Duquesne answered back to Tech with four goals in the first half. Katie Harner led the Lady Dukes with two goals off assists by Meghan Hungate. Erin Sakal and Kristen Harner each added a goal to cut the score to 6-4.

The Lady Dukes scored five goals in the second half but it was not enough as the Hokies doubled that and scored ten goals to claim the victory.

Hubbard led the Hokies with five goals while O'Doherty added four goals for the day. Junior Dawn Will (Phoenix, Md) and senior Catherine Augustyn (Fairfax, Va.) were each impressive in the win by registering two goals apiece. Duquesne was led by freshman Lauren Dutch who scored three goals in the loss.
