Tech Women's Lacrosse Handles La Salle, 19-8

Win breaks a two game slide for the Hokies

Philadelphia, Pa. - Virginia Tech had seven players score multiple goals as the Hokies cruised past La Salle, 19-8, in Atlantic 10 women's lacrosse action Sunday afternoon.

The win breaks a two-match losing streak for the Hokies, propelling them to an 8-6 overall record and a 3-2 mark in the A-10. La Salle drops to 5-9 on the season and 0-5 in league play. With the win, Tech qualifies for the four-team Atlantic 10 Championship to be held May 1-2 at Temple University in Philadelphia.

Tech jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead in the match behind another strong outing for junior Dawn Will (Phoenix, Md.), who finished with a match-high four goals. La Salle found the net twice and allowed two more Tech goals to make it a 12-2 Hokies' advantage at intermission.

La Salle proved tougher in the second half, scoring six goals while allowing the Hokies seven. The Explorers' Erica Struck added a team-high three goals in the match while Jami Wilus scored one goal and dished out three assists.

Also recording big performances for the Hokies were senior Catherine Augustyn (Fairfax, Va.) and junior Courtney Hubbard (Fairfax, Va.). Augustyn finished the afternoon with two goals and four assists while Hubbard added three goals and one assist. Sophomore Karen Diacont (Gambrills, Md.) set a new Tech record with 14 draw controls versus the Explorers.

The Hokies round out the regular season Wednesday, April 28 when they entertain Vanderbilt. First draw at Rector Fieldhouse is scheduled for 3 p.m.
