COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Virginia Tech women's lacrosse team dropped a 13-10 decision to Ohio State, Friday evening, at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. With the loss, the Hokies fall to 4-9 on the season, while the Buckeyes improve to 5-2.

Junior Kady McBrearty led the Hokies in scoring with a season-high six points on a goal and five assists. Sophomore Rachel Culp finished with three goals, while junior Christen Fratter contributed a career-high two goals. Senior Lindsay Pieper and Britt Faulkner each had two goals, while Pieper also had an assist.

Less than a minute into play, the Buckeyes notched the first score of the contest. Culp then put Tech on the board at the 25:10 mark, but Ohio State took little time in responding, as they recorded a second goal 37 seconds later.

Pieper evened the score at two all, finishing a pass from McBrearty, with 23:49 to play, but Jessica Patane netted her second goal of the contest, tallying a third Buckeye score by the 22:30 mark. Kelly Haggerty then made it a 4-2 contest for Ohio State, forcing a Tech timeout with 18 minutes left in the half.

Pieper won the ensuing draw control and Faulkner fired a shot into the top of corner of the cage to bring the Hokies back within one, 54 seconds out of the timeout. Kristen Slahor recorded her third point of the contest with a goal at the 13:48 mark, and Culp recorded her second with a goal 1:18 later, for a 5-4 contest.

After six minutes of scoreless action, the Buckeyes tallied another score, before fouling Pieper. Pieper gave up the free position, dishing an assist to Faulkner to bring the Hokies within one, at 5-6.

The Buckeyes tallied another goal before Culp completed a hat-trick at the 1:21 mark and Fratter evened the score at seven all, with 59 seconds left in the opening half. McBrearty assisted both goals.

Ohio State would go on to take an 8-7 lead into the intermission though, notching a goal three seconds before the break, and extended its lead back to two, 1:57 into the second half.

Stingy defense allowed only one goal in a 15:46 span, a free position goal for the Buckeyes, extending their lead to three with 5:25 to play, and then four by the 4:17 mark.

Although McBrearty played a hand in all three of Tech's second half goals, the Hokies were unable to overcome Ohio State's five goals in the final half, and fell 13-10 to the Buckeyes.

For the contest, Pieper collected a game-high four draw controls, moving her into third on Tech's all-time career draw controls chart. Sophomore Christina Griel picked up four ground balls for the Hokies, and in goal, sophomore Kari Morrison stopped seven shots.

Stahor led the Buckeyes with nine points on five goals and four assists.

Tech will take a 10 day break before returning to action on Tuesday, Apr. 10, as they host Longwood in a non-conference match-up. Opening draw is slated for 7 p.m. at the Virginia Tech Lacrosse Stadium.
