Hokies overcome Mount St. Mary's, 20-9
Gray and Reich lead Tech with career-high four goals apiece

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's lacrosse team picked up 20-9 decision over Mount St. Mary's, Friday, at the Virginia Tech Lacrosse Stadium. Senior Jackie Gray and junior Jenna Reich paced the Hokies, netting four goals each.

The Hokies struck first for the first time this season, scoring three straight in 55 seconds from seniors Lindsay Pieper, Gray and junior Kady McBrearty to open the first 2:30 of the contest. After trading goals, the Hokies strung together three more scores, including two more from Gray, to build a 7-2 lead by the 14:12 mark. The Mountaineers responded with back-to-back goals from Katelyn Catanese.

Sophomore Casey Warner, scoring off a free position shot, started another three goal flurry for the Hokies, building the lead to 10-4, before a goal by Casey Paris broke Tech's scoring string at the 3:33 mark. Reich responded 30 seconds later and senior Britt Faulkner closed the scoring of the first half, converting a free position shot to give the Hokies a 12-5 lead going into halftime.

Freshman Faith Richards put one on the board in the first minute of the second half off an assist by Faulkner. Tech continued to build their lead throughout the second half with consecutive goals from Reich and sophomore Rachel Culp. The Mount flung another goal past sophomore keeper, Kari Morrison, at the 17:23 mark, but Gray found the back of the net for her fourth score of the contest, a career-high.

Reich notched her own four goal career-high, firing a pass from Faulkner past Mount goalie, Jane Karger, with 13:46 remaining.

With a 17-7 lead, junior Rosemary Patterson scored her first goal of the season just over a minute later from a free position shot. The teams then traded goals in the final 10 minutes, leading Tech to a 20-9 victory.

The 20 goals marks Tech's biggest scoring output since March 27, 2006, when the Hokies set a program-record with 23 goals while hosting Delaware.

Tech will return to action this Sunday, March 11, in Washington, D.C. American will host the Hokies for a 12 p.m. opening draw.
