BLACKSBURG, Va. - Junior midfielder Rachel Culp tied her career high with four goals, but the Virginia Tech women's lacrosse team could not avoid its third-straight one-goal loss in an 8-7 decision against the Delaware Blue Hens on Sunday at Tech Lacrosse Stadium.

Tech (2-9) got seven goals from four different players, including Culp's second career four-goal performance, the first coming last season against Longwood. Culp turned in Tech's fourth four-goal output of the season en route to her 13th career multiple-goal game.

After Caitlyn Weir opened the scoring for Tech at the 16:19 mark to start the game, Culp scored the Hokies' next two goals to bring the score to a 3-3 tie. Delaware's Casey McCrudden answered with a goal with just nine seconds left in the first stanza to take a 4-3 advantage into halftime.

Delaware (5-2) got another goal from McCrudden just 1:03 into the second half, which began the Blue Hens' half-opening three-goal run. The Blue Hens then got goals from Emily Schaknowski and Courtney Aburn, which gave Delaware its largest lead of the contest at 7-3.

Culp countered with her third goal of the afternoon off an assist from Allie Emala to cut the lead to 7-4. The assist was the first for Emala in her career. Delaware then came back with its last goal of the game from Brittany Davis at the 10:46 mark.

The Hokies then started a furious comeback to end the game, scoring the last three goals. Emala converted a free position shot at 8:50, Culp earned her fourth and final goal of the contest off another free position opportunity at 5:35, and then senior Kady McBrearty converted her first goal of the game with just 20 second remaining, and has now scored in 22 straight games.

Hokie goalkeeper Kari Morrison scooped up a game-high four ground balls, and also made 13 saves.

McCrudden was the only Blue Hen to score multiple goals, while Schaknowski and Muth also dished out one assist apiece to tally multiple points.

Tech will face North Carolina on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. game in Chapel Hill, N.C.
