BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech (1-2) scored the first goal in 70 seconds through Marissa Davey, the second just 43 seconds later (Taylor Caskey) and the onslaught would not let up as the Hokies routed Old Dominion 20-3 Saturday for the team’s first win of the season.

Tristan McGinley set the tone for the game, recording nine draw controls for the Hokies, setting up the offense. The senior scored three goals, tallying hat tricks in consecutive games after her four-goal effort at James Madison in midweek.

Kelci O’Donnell had a career afternoon, scoring four goals on five shots in the game.

The Hokies controlled the draw all day long winning 18 to the Monarchs’ (1-1) seven. Kelly Glatthorn secured five for the Hokies and Emma Crooks also possessed three.

Tech took advantage from its free position opportunities, scoring 5 of 8.

Kara Reichert and Elena Ricci earned the first starts of their careers Saturday. Reichert announced herself by scoring twice on the afternoon and Ricci played stout in defense, recording two caused turnovers and a groundball.

It was a day of firsts all around as several players got on the score sheet for the first time in 2018. Zan Biedenharn started and had two assists as well as scored a goal of her own.

Freshman Morgan Berman saw her first action in goal, playing 25 minutes and coming up with one save.
