Hokies Fall at UConn
Chase leads Tech with 15 points

HARTFORD, Conn. - Connecticut began the second half on a strong run and defeated Virginia Tech, 95-60, in men's BIG EAST Conference basketball action Thursday evening at the Hartford Civic Center. The loss drops the Hokies to 6-9 overall and 0-3 in conference play, while UConn is now 9-3 overall and 3-0 in BIG EAST action.

The Huskies took a 39-30 lead into the intermission and opened the second half on a 24-8 run to break the game open. UConn shot 63.0% from the field in the second half and 55.9% for the game.

Junior guard Brian Chase (Washington, D.C.) led the Hokies with 15 points and sophomore guard Carlos Dixon (Salisbury, N.C.) added 13 points in the loss. All five Huskie starters scored in double figures, but freshman guard Ben Gordon came off the bench to lead all scorers with 18 points.

Tech was able to win the battle of the boards, 39-37, but committed 16 turnovers in the contest. The Hokies could manage just 36.5% from the field for the night in their first conference road game of the season..

Tech returns to action on Saturday afternoon, as they host #20/21 Miami at 4 p.m. in Cassell Coliseum.
