Hokies Fall at #6 UConn, 83-65
Taylor and Matthews score 16 points each for Tech

HARTFORD, Conn. - Using a late second half run, #6 Connecticut held off Virginia Tech, 83-65, in BIG EAST Conference men's basketball action Tuesday night at the Hartford Civic Center. With the loss, Tech falls to 6-8 overall and 0-2 in league action, while the Huskies are now 11-1 overall and 2-0 in BIG EAST play.
The Hokies led throughout most of the first half and took a 43-39 lead into intermission. The lead see-sawed back-and-forth for the first 11 minutes of the second half, before the Huskies went on a 26-4 run to gain control of the contest.
Terry Taylor and Bryant Matthews scored 16 points each for the Hokies. Carlos Dixon added 10 points in the loss. Ben Gordon led all scorers with 24 points for the Huskies. Emeka Okafor scored 19 points, grabbed 12 rebounds had had five blocked shots for UConn.
Tech shot 50% in the first half, but UConn held the Hokies to just 28% in the second half. UConn won the battle of the boards, 43-29.
The game concludes a two-game, BIG EAST Conference schedule-opening road trip for the Hokies. Tech returns to action on Saturday evening, as it opens its BIG EAST Conference home schedule at 7 p.m. against Providence in Cassell Coliseum. The game is the first of four consecutive home contests for the Hokies.
