DAYTON, Ohio - Rolan Roberts' free throw early in overtime gave Virginia Tech the lead for good and the Hokies went on to beat Dayton 73-64 Thursday night.

Roberts finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds for Virginia Tech (6-9, 1-5 Atlantic 10). Eddie Lucas had 18 points, including a 3-pointer in overtime, and Russ Wheeler had 14.

Tony Stanley had 22 points for Dayton (7-9. 2-4). Mark Ashman and Cain Doliboa had 11 apiece.

Dayton trailed 34-29 at halftime but rallied to lead most of the second half until Wheeler hit a jumper with 3:33 to play to put Virginia Tech ahead 57-56.

A 3-pointer by Doliboa and a pair of free throws by Edwin Young with 19 seconds left sent the game to overtime. But Dayton managed just one layup and one free throw - both by Ashman - after that.

Roberts started the overtime period with a free throw and Lucas hit a 3-pointer. Ashman responded for Dayton, but the Flyers could not score in the final 1:40 as Roberts, Wheeler and Brendan Dunlop each made two free throws.
