Hokies Unable to Stop Streaking Musketeers

Men's basketball team falls to Xavier, 93-69.

CINCINNATI (AP) - James Posey and Lenny Brown scored 22 points each to lead Xavier to its 10th consecutive victory with a 93-69 win over Virginia Tech in the Atlantic 10 Conference on Saturday.

Xavier (15-4, 7-0 A10) tied a school record with 12 3-point shots. The Musketeers made just 14 of 46 3-point shots in their previous three games. Brown and Posey each made four 3-pointers in Saturday's victory over the Hokies (6-10, 1-6).

Xavier also won 10 consecutive games to open the 1996-97 season. The school record was set in the 1987-88 season when that team won 15 consecutive games.

Posey, who also contributed a career-high nine assists and led both teams with 13 rebounds, scored six points during a 14-0 run that led the Musketeers to a 35-24 lead with 2:25 left in the first half. Posey's spurt included a dunk after a Virginia Tech turnover that gave Xavier the lead for good. Xavier led 42-25 at the half.

Xavier outscored Virginia Tech 21-1 in the last six minutes of the first half and led by as many as 31 points in the second half.

Maurice McAfee added scored 16 points for Xavier, and LLoyd Price had 13 points.

Eddie Lucas and Rolan Roberts led the scoring for Virginia Tech with 19 points each. Dennis Mims added 10.
